Mecha Monday: Robotech Comics
Robotech comics first officially appeared in print in 1985, though Comico published the first issue of its license from Harmony Gold USA under the Macross name.
When Harmony Gold was releasing the first few episodes of its original Macross dub in 1984, it was discovered that Revell already had a Robotech Defenders line of scale model kits that included the transformable Macross mecha. The potential for brand confusion caused concern that Harmony Gold would have problems selling its own transformable Macross toys. Harmony Gold and Revell were able to come to a co-licensing agreement — when producer Carl Macek had the idea to combine Macross with Southern Cross and Mospeada to create an 85-episode television series, he chose to use Revell's pre-existing Robotech name and logo to strengthen the title's brand recognition.

Mecha Monday: Macross Mecha Manual
To place the VF-1 Valkyrie in proper context, I've made a quick chart using images from the internet. It's a bit rough and low resolution, but it works. Rather than choosing fighters far larger or far smaller than the VF-1, I've picked several real fighter craft that are roughly the same size. This should help fans visualize the VF-1 Valkyrie in proper context. It should also show fans that despite its modest length, the VF-1's volume and construction are rather generous for a craft of its size.

Mecha Monday : VF-1A Valkyrie
The design would prove to be so versatile that even after it was phased out in the UN Spacy military in favor of more advanced variable fighters over the years, the VF-1 would continue to be produced as late as 2050 serving in militias and civilian role.
