Tanker's Tuesday:Type 61 Main Battle Tank

The Type 61's design is conventional. The hull is of welded
construction and is divided into three compartments, driving
in the front, fighting in the center, and engine in the rear. The
commander and gunner sit in the turret on the right, the loader
in the turret on the left. The driver sits in the front of the hull
on the right-hand side.
The turret is cast in one piece and resembles the American
M-47 with its large overhanging bustle. Armor is rather light
for a Main Battle Tank: only 2.5 inches maximum on the
turret face, 1.8 inches on the glacis down to a minimum of
.6 inch on the hull rear.
The 90mm gun is fitted with a T-style muzzle brake and a
fume extractor to keep breech gases out of the tank. The gun
fires armor-piercing capped and high-explosive ammunition.
Secondary armament is based on the American pattern: A
7.62mm NATO machine gun mounted co-axially with the
main gun and a .50 caliber machine gun mounted on the turret
top for antiaircraft use. No nuclear-biological-chemical (NBC)
protection is fitted, although there is provision for storing
NBC protective clothing and respirators.
An armored bridge-laying vehicle (Type 67), armored engineer
vehicle (Type 67), armored recovery vehicle (Type 70), and a
Type 61 training tank have also been designed and built. The
Type 61 tank was never exported.

War! Age of Imperialism

War! Age of Imperialism is a game of empire building,
exploration, economic expansion, technological
advancement, diplomacy, and tactical battles in the age
of Imperialism (1830 - 1900). Players rule one of the
great powers of the era as they attempt to carve out an
empire. Should they build up their army or economy?
Negotiate or attack? Spend on research or a new fort to
protect the frontier?
The game comes with 3 levels of rules (basic, standard, advanced),
a huge game board and 816 molded plastic figures.

I need to thank Bob for pointing this one out to me!

Fortress Moon ...part II

The Story So Far...

FORTRESS MOON takes place in a alternate retro-future where WWII lasted longer than anyone expected. Due to the strain of war, resources on Earth were heavily depleted. However, after successfully reaching the Moon scientists found a priceless ore that when refined created Element Z, which is highly sought for nuclear fusion and is used as a supreme source of energy.

By 1976 the three superpowers had set up mines and refineries on the moon; digging up and shipping back the energy source to Earth. It was hard work with long hours and the workers and families felt they weren't being properly treated. So the Great Revolt on the Moon began.

The Miners and their families seized the refineries and drove back anyone that didn't support their cause. They began calling themselves Lunar Colonists and through the whole lot of the them were from different back and nationalities they stood as one, separating themselves from Earth.

This event didn't boded well with the superpowers one Earth and they declared War on the Moon. The United States, Soviet Union, and Republic of China, gathered their spaceships and launched an assault on the Moon.
As they did the Lunar Colonists prepped themselves for war, coverting mining equipment, robots, and vehicles into weapons.

Fortress Moon!

A few weeks back I made a ebay purchase and had the great good
fortune to meet Alan Thompson who with his son Thorin own
+1 Hammer  gaming company that specializes in eveything from
boardgames to card games. This is their latest idea Fortress Moon
which is basically a retro 1950s to 60s
classic cold war science fiction game

Alan sent me a few shots of the game map, cards, and games
miniatures, so far looking good!

You can follow along here and on their Facebook page:

Or their web page:

I plan to use this game as a campaign generator for 15mm
miniature battles, my old club did something very similar
with King Maker many years ago and it worked out great.I
think this will work out just as well. I will be putting up
more information as it becomes available....stay tuned!
